Air fryer chicken tenders are made by coating strips of chicken in seasoned breading and then cooking them in an air fryer.

I like to make my own chicken strips because they are far healthier than fried equivalents. The air fryer allows the tenders to become incredibly crispy while using far less oil.

1. Chicken tenders: You can get them from the underside of chicken breasts, or you can simply just the tenders at a grocery store. Also, you can use chicken breasts, by cutting into long strips.

2. Breadcrumbs: I prefer using Panko for extra crunch, but you can also use regular or Italian crumbs.

3. Salt and pepper: You will need to season to taste.

4. Eggs: Large eggs will make it easy for you.

5. Garlic powder: Use your desired quantity.

6. Flour: All-purpose flour will give you a better result.

I kept this recipe as easy as possible. You can also season the breadcrumbs with jerk spice, chili powder, Italian seasoning, cajun mix, and other spices.

How to Make Chicken Tenders from Scratch?

It’s really simple to make homemade chicken tenders. You don’t have to waste time slicing a raw chicken breast because chicken tenders are already chopped into strips.

Season the chicken with salt and pepper as the first step. Then, prepare your breading stations. In a small bowl, mix two eggs and the panko and breadcrumbs.

After that, bread the chicken tenders. Each one of them should be dipped in the egg and in the breadcrumb mixture.

Place on a baking sheet or chopping board until all of them have been breaded. Then, coat each side of the chicken strips with olive oil spray before placing them in the air fryer.

How Long to Cook Chicken Tenders in the Air Fryer?

Air fry the chicken tenders in a single layer for 5 to 6 minutes on each side, flipping halfway. They’re done when the chicken is cooked through and the outside is crispy and golden.

I enjoy frying chicken strips in the air fryer because they are so crispy. If you don’t have an air fryer, bake them at 425 degrees for 16 minutes, flipping halfway through.

What to Serve with Chicken Tenders?

These air fryer chicken tenderloins were served with zucchini tomato orzo and lemon wedges for squeezing. They’d go well with Broccoli and Orzo or a Mediterranean Quinoa Salad.

If you want a more traditional approach, serve them with regular sweet potato fries or french fries cooked in the air fryer.

You can refrigerate the leftover tenders in an airtight container or large resealable bag for 3-4 days.

Also, reheating the tenders in the air fryer will help you to preserve their crispiness. Preheat the oven to 350°F and cook the tenders for 5-10 minutes.
